Thanksgiving Surprise Part 3

Pa, I done told you I did not see anything. I just heard a rustling sound coming from the bushes. Well I'll have a look around tomorrow. Time for supper and the daylight is gone. We need to make sure all the animals are bedded for the night and then lock all the doors and windows. Bring in the nights firewood and a fresh bucket of water. Let's get busy so we can have our dinner, then settle in for the night.

Smells so good Ma what are we having? Pa it is just a vegetable stew and cornbread. We have some sweet butter and sorghum to spread on our cornbread.

I am so hungry. I am off to finish the chores and get washed up for supper. Good Pa I'll put it on the table.

Ma this stew is so good. My mouth just waters thinking of that dried apple cake you bake for tomorrow. Thanks Joseph. I skimmed some fresh cream off the top of the milk today and I whipped it to go with the cake. I need to go to the cellar and get the corn, green beans, we canned. I must also go to the barn and gather the potatoes.

Pa after we tidy up you could go with me to the barn and cellar. After the scare today I think I should not go alone. Sounds like a fine idea to me Ma.

You kids need to get ready for bed . There is lots to do tomorrow.
