The passing days of summer

Iam sitting on my front porch shelling lima beans, and there is a nice breeze blowing. I was remembering when I was growing up my mother and grandmother would pull up the last of the garden at the end of the summer. Then they would clean all the vegetables and can them together in quart massion jars. In the winter they would use them to make vegetable soup. That soup was the best I HAVE EVER TASTED. I can close my eyes now and taste the soup and hear my Grandmother saying I think this batch was pretty good. It WAS four hungry children ate it up quickly and could not wait for the next cold snap so we could be treated to another simmering pot. Want it to turn cold so you can make some?

The only way I like lima beans is in soup, cause that's how my Mama makes it. I'm longing for soup weather. I'm enjoying your blog, just trying to catch up with my blog reading today!
