I would like to share another special Valentine Memory with you.
On the night before Valentine's day in the year 1984 my children, husband and myself spent a very fun evening together, eating popcorn and writing out the children's Valentine's for the next day!!! We had bought Valentine's for school but the rule was we made homemade Valentine's for our Family members and special friends. Let me tell you friends we had glue and paper scraps all over the house. What fun we were having. As we were finishing up and getting everyone bathe and ready for bed we looked out the window and it was starting to snow.
My children always got very excited when it begin to snow (especially on a school night) but not on this night because they wanted to exchange their cards and eat candy and cupcakes.
So my husband turned on the news and it said little to no acclimation. We assured them it would be fine and they would be having school the next day. So off to bed they went.
Yes that is correct!!!!!
We awoke the next morning to one of the biggest snows we had seen in a long while.
The children were upset at first about their parties, then realizing they could have a very fun day playing in the snow were happy.
It was only a short time till their Father came home from work. There was too much snow for them to work. My husband works at a cross tie treating plant and the storm had put the power out so they could not operate their machines.
They were really happy then. It was hard to contain them to eat their breakfast. After that we bundle everyone up and out we went.
We built a huge snowman, made snow angels, had snowball fights, went sledding and made snow ice cream.
You can only image the laughter and fun we had. We would go in and "thaw out" then back out for more fun. As their gloves and socks got soaked through we would put on fresh ones. I remember we ran out of gloves and mittens so I put socks on their hands so they could continue to play.
Later in the afternoon the power came on. First we had steaming cups of hot chocolate. After everyone got warm we baked sugar cookies. They cut them into heart shapes and iced them with frosting and sprinkles.
While they were busy doing this I made a big pot of vegetable soup.
As it was cooking everyone got hot baths and put on their warm p.j's. My husband brought in wood for our wood burning stove and had the house so nice and warm.
I remember this day as if it happened yesterday. It is etched into my memory for all time. It was one of the best and sweetest Valentine's Days ever!!!!
