Just Wondering

I have a Question????

I always bake everything from scratch. I must confess I do not like brownies from scratch as much as I like the mixes.

So Ladies do you like the homemade Brownies or the box ones?

I also prefer Gingerbread mix over the homemade kind. I do have to have a homemade lemon sauce to pour over it.

I am editing this post to add my recipe for lemon sauce as I have been asked about it.

Lemon Sauce Recipe

1/2 cup sugar

1T. cornstarch

1/4 teaspoon salt

1 cup boiling water

1 T. lemon zest

3 to 4 T. Fresh Lemon Juice

1 T. Real Butter

In a saucepan, combine sugar, cornstarch and salt. Add boiling water. Cook, stirring constantly, until mixture is thick and clear. Stir in lemon zest, lemon juice, and butter. Serve Warm

Mary,

I don't make much from a mix, but do like the Robin *Hood shortbread. Delicious.

I don't eat anything that is sweet, except for the odd taste because I have diabetes, but used to love gingerbread. Never did care too much for brownies.

Thanks for entering the book giveaway.

Blessings,
Mary

Mary, I don't bake anymore --since I don't need the sweets. BUT--my mother-in-law makes delcious brownies from a MIX she buys at Sam's. I like moist brownies --and these are fabulous.

Haven't had any gingerbread in a long time--but I surely do LIKE it...

I have a feeling that most mixes NOW are as good or almost as good as 'cooking from scratch.' AND--I guess it depends upon how much time you have these days to cook.

I'll check back sometime and see what others say.

Hugs,
Betsy

That is one thing that is always better from a mix, I don't know why! I do change the mix a bit, use real butter, one egg and no water for the brownies.

I don't bake much anymore, but brownies from a mix always seem more moist. How about your lemon sauce recipe?? It sounds delicious and on gingerbread--Yum!

I prefer brownies made from a box too. Our local Publix makes some really good ones too so in a pinch I can pick them up and not have to worry about it.

Hugs!

I agree! Both of those I prefer the box mix. Hubby asks for lemon sauce on different things.

That lemon sauce sounds delightful!

I, too, prefer the boxed brownie mixes...it's the moist chewiness, I think. I add things to them, though, like a half a cup of nuts and a half cup of some flavor baking chip...white chocolate, mint chocolate, whatever suits my mood.

Now you've done it! I'm good and hungry. ;)

Hello dear Mary:-)

I usually bake from scratch as well but when it comes to Brownies, I always use a mix because it's so much moister than the scratch one I had made a couple of times. As for Gingerbread, I always make it from scratch:-) Thanks so much for your lemon sauce recipe, will print it out right now! xoxo

Hi Mary,
Thank you for praying for me while I was sick:) Finally feeling better.
I enjoy treats made from scratch :)
Every once in awhile I can't taste the difference.
I see you have a new banner/"dress". It's fun to change them.
Lots of snow today and baking sounds like a good idea.
Take care.
Warmly,
Deb
