The Turnip

They had pushed and pulled all morning long. I was so tired from watching them Mother rabbit told her husband over dinner.

Did they ever get it out of the ground?? Mother turned to him laughing. Yes after they all three fell to the ground and were covered in dirt from head to toe. You should have seen them. It was about the funniest thing I have ever seen. Those three were so determined they were going to have stewed turnips for supper that they were not going to give up.

It was the biggest turnip I have ever seen. After they got it up they could not pack it home. So what did they do asked Dad??? They took the strings out of their shoes and tied them around the top of the turnip and then started pulling it home. This was all going just fine until they reached the hill. All of a sudden the shoelaces broke and the turnip started rolling down the hill. It was going so fast that it knocked all three of them down. Boys and turnips and their untied shoes were flying all about in the air.

I was laughing so hard that I scared the cat. It went running and the turnip, shoes and boys ran right over him. I have not seen that cat all day. Finally they all rolled to the bottom of the hill and were able to get up and start home again. I hurried inside the house so they would not know I had seen it all.

Three little rabbits came to the house so proud of what they had brought home. It was so hard not to start laughing again when there they stood all covered in dirt with this giant of a turnip. Mom, they said in usion we got this turnip for tomorrow's supper.

Oh my Dears, I exclaimed what a grand supper this will make. Then upon their faces were the biggest, cheesiest grins ever. And peeping around the corner was our cat, meowing as if to ask what is next??

I love your stories Mary. They take me right back to when I was little, but then again I think that we both adore chidlren's stories. I wish I lived nearby and we could go browse the children's book section of the local book store.

I have a rainbow and an award for you on my post today. Please stop by and take it home. Have a lovely day. Karen
