Henry

It was a cold blustery morning. The wind was howling. and as cutting as a knife. Henry pulled his overcoat closer to his body. He was trying to hurry so he could get the fire started before the others arrived for work. Checking his pocket watch, it was already half past four. It was going to be a very long day and he still had his Christmas shopping to do. Henry at the age of 26 was the bank president and though the job paid well it carried with it many obligations. Thus leaving Henry precious little time for himself. As he hurried along he began to think of the new young teller working at the bank. She had lost her husband shortly after the birth of their daughter. She had taken the job to helped support her child and herself. She lived in a small house on the outskirts of town. She spent her nights sewing for the land lord's family. Such a pretty thing and her little daughter Victoria was as stunning as her Mother. Such a sweet child, always doing what her Mother asked of her. Henry had been trying to get up the nerve to ask Emily out to dinner for weeks. Today he was going to ask her if she would have lunch with him and go shopping to help him pick out presents for his Mother. Emily was shivering as she approached the bank. Thinking to herself, I hope Henry has a good warm fire going. Today was a half day at the bank but she still to finish the fancy dresses for the landlord's wife and children. It was begining to snow as she walked into the bank. Henry was busy stoking the fire . The crackling sound and the bright amber glow it cast across the room made a smile come to Emily's face. Henry turned around just in time to see it and his heart skipped a beat. Yes today would be the day he would ask Emily to lunch.
