The Christmas Tree

Emily stopped as she reached the door long enough to straighten her dress, run her fingers through her hair , and catch her breath. She was so excited that she felted like all the air had been sucked out of her lungs. It must have been hours since I knocked on the door, Henry thought to himslf. At last Emily gently opened the door. What she saw was beyond all she had ever allowed herself to dream of. Henry was standing at her door with the most beautiful Christmas tree she had ever laid eyes upon. Victoria ran to the door. Henry is that tree for us she asked??? Of course it is Victoria,I thought after dinner we could decorate it together. We have no decorations Emily explained as we have never been privledge to have such a fine gift as this. When I was shopping today I picked some up. My Mother and I did not put a tree up this year so I thought if I got one for you might invite me to share it with you and to join in on the fun of trimming it out. Oh Mother could we Victoria asked Emily. Only if you finish all of your dinner. Oh mother I promise I will. Emily turned to Henry and ask him to please come in. After supper I will bring in the tree and the things I have in my buggy. As Henry enter the tiny home he felt the warmth and love that was present inside this house. It was not a house but rather a home that was filled with laughter and happiness. As Emily filled her table with the food she had prepared little Victoria had dragged her chair next to where Henry was seated. Henry had not had such a fine meal in such along time. With his Mother getting along in years and the hours he kept at the bank it was hard to have a meal such as this. Henry , Emily asked is the food to your liking. So much so !!! It is quite good. I see that Miss Victoria has cleaned her plate. If I may I will help you clear the table so that we might put the tree up . Yes please do so. I can hardly wait to see how it looks with all those candles and balls you have brought to put upon it. I think it should go in the corner by the window. I agree Henry stated. While you are bringing it in and standing it up I will put some corn on to pop and we can help Victoria string it for the tree. When Henry went outside to unload the buggy and bring the tree in he offered up a prayer of thanksgiving . Never in his life had he felt so alive. He must be the luckiest man alive this Christmas Eve night to be allowed to share it with these two special people. Emily was putting the corn on the stove as Victoria ented the room. Mother Henry is very nice. He makes me happy . I am so glad we are getting to spend our Christmas Eve with him I like him. Victoria I like him also. At that moment Henry entered the room with a smile on his face that would brighten the darkest corner of the world!!!

Mary ~ I finally got my time alone to read your story. :o) So sweet! Now I'm waiting along with everyone else for the next installment. It just like a Charles Dickens' story appearing weekly in the paper! :o)
