Emily and Victoria

The soft flickering glow of the candles could be seen from the window of the tiny home. A blanklet of fresh fallen snow covered the ground below. What you could not see from the street was the love of this Mother for her child. There were no bought presents placed beneath the tiny tree. Money had been tight this Christmas, Emily had some how managed to save enough scraps of material ,lace and trims from the dresses she sewed for the landowner's wife and daughters to fashion a beautiful dress for her precious Victoria. She had also made a doll out of the left over musslin she had backed the quilt with she had made to keep her little one warm. Using the rest of the fabric scraps, buttons and ribbions,Emily labored into the wee hours of the morning designing lovely doll clothes with matching hats. She felt a saddness in her heart for not being able to give Victoria all the fancy things the landowner's daughters would wake up to in the morning. Victoria was such a darling child, who went about all her chores smiling all the while watching the other children laugh and play. Emily woke her daughter on Christmas morning to a breakfast of tea and day old bread. After which they went up to the main house to see the gifts the family had recieved. There were dress made of silk ,china dolls and tea sets,a doll house filled with furniture. The stockings were over flowing with candy, fruit and nuts. Victoria was given some fruit and candy from the lady of the house. Emily pulled on her young daughter's boots and once again trugged in the snow back to their tiny home. "Emily said to Victoria let us see what Santa has brought you. The squeals of delight from Victoria as she discovered each wonderful gift warm Emily's heart. Victoria looked up at her Mother and said Mom there is one more gift under the tree and it is from me to you. The five year old child had drawn a picture of her Mother and herself with big happy smiles upon their faces. Tears filled Emily's eyes as her little daughter told her Mother she was the luckiest child in the world to have a loving Mother and such a fine Christmas.

What a sweet story...it sounds like it could have really happened! At one time in my life, it was just my daughter and myself and this really touched my heart. Thanks for sharing this with all of us!

That's a very nice Christmas story. Did you write it? I love little stories like that with happy endings. And I love your new header...it's really pretty and you left the little daisy so I'd recognize that I was really here. LOL! I also enjoy that peaceful music. So pleasant!
