I Remember When

OUr friend at Lots Of Little Things blog spot tagged me for the I Remember when theme. Thank you fot thinking of me and here are some of my thoughts as we go down memory lane. #1 I remember when Chistmas was something that you waited for all year long. Everything about it was so important and very special. In our home there was an Advent wreath. Which we all helped make. We gathered the twigs berries and evergreen from our walks in the woods. My mother added candles and we lit one each Sunday until Christmas. The Christmastreewas put up 3or 4 days before Christmas and Baby Jesus was placed in the manager on Christmas morning. Our stockings well hung by our fireplace on Christmas Eve.{we really had a fireplace our source of heat.] We each got a toy from Santa and a gift from our parents and our only living grandparent our Grandmother {Mamma] . Our stockings were filled with candy, nuts and fruit. Which back in the day you did not get as you do now. #2 I remember when you set down to supper every night with your family and talked about your day. #3 I remember Manners! I was taught to say please and thank you, yes mam and no sir. To respect my elders, my teachers in school. To always be kind to everyone I met. To share what I have with others and to always be thankful I had it to share.I was taught not to belittle others and to always say that I was sorry when not meaning to I hurt someones feelings. #4 I remember when Sunday was kept for the Lord's Day. We attended church together as a family. Then had Sunday Dinner prepared by my Mom and Grandmother. {REMEMBER those Big dinners.] Then we spent the day doing fun things and spending time with each other. No stores were open on Sunday when I was very little this happened much later. #5 I remember when a Hmburger and a soft drink was ,25cents at the local drug store. I rember going to town on Saturday night, being given our allowance 25 cents and running from store to store to see what treasures we could purchase. I remember, bell bottoms, white gogo boots, when the Beatles enter pop culture, The Vietnam war, nad getting to vote for the first time. But most of all I remember how safe I felt growing up in a Loving Christian home and how hard my parents worked to take care of us. What do you remember. As the holidays are apporaching I am not going to tag only five people to do this but any one who has special memories that might want to share with us please do so.

Those certainly were the good ole days weren't they? Memories are priceless little treasures aren't they...they remind you of simple times and keep you aware of your blessings.

Haha the fruit in the stocking...there was a bowl full on the table from where the contents came in the first place...I'd just dump mine back in! Nothing good in there I said :)
LOL means 'laughing out loud'. Didn't know if anyone had told you.

Growing up in a Christian home created the base for everything! Now, in doing the same for my kids, I hope their memories will be similar to mine. Blessings... POlly

Your nothing open on Sunday has reminded me that here in Missouri we had "blue Sundays" for the longest time. It wasn't until very recently that you could buy alcohol on Sundays.

And we still eat dinner together every night, and I try to have grandpa over for Sunday dinners!
